KANGAR STREET VENDORS TAKE EARLY STEPS TO BEAT THE HEAT

23/03/2026 04:48 PM

KANGAR, March 23 (Bernama) -- Street vendors here have begun early preparations to manage the hot weather expected to persist over the coming months.

Measures include adjusting daily routines and prioritising health to keep businesses running smoothly.

Idham Zamri, 30, said he had prepared early, anticipating the prolonged hot weather.

“I’m ready. I would splash water on my face to stay cool. This heat could last for up to six months,” he told Bernama today.

He said early preparation is crucial for traders exposed to the sun at roadside stalls.

Another trader, 24-year-old Amisya Hishamudin, said her experience with the heat two years ago has taught her to be better prepared this time.

“2024 was so hot that my face would sting after long hours in the sun. This year feels the same, so we need to be extra careful. Besides staying healthy, traders must also ensure they have enough water while working,” she said.

Meanwhile, Perlis Meteorological Office Director Nur Syafarina Shafi’e said the latest update from the Malaysian Meteorological Department classifies Perlis as Level 1 (yellow), a cautionary alert, noting that the state has recorded maximum temperatures of 35 to 37°C for three consecutive days.

Nur Syafarina urged the public to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, avoid open burning, and monitor weather changes during the monsoon transition from late March to May.
