KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- With 30 days remaining until the opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, the organisers of the event have confirmed the participation of 1,790 athletes from across Asia.

According to the organising committee in a statement, Olympic bodies from 45 countries and regions have registered for the event, with athlete numbers finalised following qualification reviews as of March 20.

The organising committee’s deputy secretary-general, Li Haigang said competition schedules have been optimised and detailed timetables will be released soon to assist media and spectators in planning.

The games will feature 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events. The women’s beach football competition has been cancelled due to insufficient team participation, while all other events will proceed as scheduled.

Beach handball leads participation with 237 athletes, followed by dragon boat, beach athletics, ju-jitsu and beach volleyball.

In terms of delegation size, the largest contingents come from Thailand, China, the Philippines, India and Hong Kong.

Organisers added that venue teams have completed multiple rounds of training and test events to ensure readiness ahead of the games, which will take place from April 22 to 30.
