KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- The government is fine-tuning the implementation of flexible working arrangements, including work from home (WFH), for civil servants to cushion the impact of global oil supply disruptions arising from the West Asia crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
In a special address today, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the measure would be implemented in phases and on a selective basis.
The Prime Minister also urged the private sector to adopt WFH practices, as already implemented by several companies and banks.
“On the part of the government, insya-Allah, we will continue to uphold discipline, avoid wastage and leakages, and ensure that Malaysia’s economic growth momentum remains exceptional.
“Despite the global turbulence, Malaysia continues to attract strong interest and remains an active investment destination, as reflected in several initiatives we have announced, even amid ongoing conflicts and uncertainties,” he said.
Several Southeast Asian countries, particularly Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia, have introduced WFH policies for civil servants in 2026 to reduce energy and fuel consumption.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister called on Malaysians to continue praying for the nation’s peace and to remain diligent and committed in their work, whether in the public or private sectors.
“Let us strengthen our economic resilience in facing every test and challenge from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, and take the opportunity amid global uncertainties to improve and enhance our capabilities,” he said.
