PUBLIC URGED TO STAY UNITED, RATIONAL AMID GLOBAL ENERGY CRISIS

27/03/2026 12:07 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- The public has been urged to remain united, think rationally and prioritise the common good in facing the current global energy crisis following the conflict in West Asia.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement on the latest measures to address the crisis should be received with understanding.

“Alhamdulillah, my observation shows that many are rational and understand the current situation, while others continue to offer prayers and support during this challenging time. Friends abroad have also expressed admiration for Malaysia’s approach in managing this crisis.

“Compared with other countries, Malaysia still enjoys various advantages, including energy subsidies,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Earlier today, Anwar in a special address announced a temporary adjustment to the quota for the Budi MADANI RON95 Programme (BUDI95) from 300 litres to 200 litres per month effective April 1, following the conflict in West Asia.

He, however, stressed that the subsidised RON95 price remains at RM1.99 per litre.

The prime minister also expressed hope that the public would understand the temporary adjustment, noting that it would remain in place until global oil markets, supply and the economy stabilise.
