BUDI95 TEMPORARY ADJUSTMENT AN INITIAL STEP TO PROTECT PEOPLE, KEEP NATION STABLE - ADAM ADLI

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- The temporary adjustment of the Budi MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme should be viewed within a broader framework as an initial step by the government to maintain national stability, ensure supply, and protect the people from more severe impacts should the conflict in West Asia continue.

PKR communications director Adam Adli Abd Halim said that the temporary adjustment of the quota from 300 litres to 200 litres is based on actual usage data, which shows that the majority of people use less than 200 litres per month.

“After careful consideration, the government chose a more precise and prudent approach by adjusting the usage limit without increasing the price of BUDI95, which remains at RM1.99 per litre.

“This proves that the government is trying to manage current pressures without directly shifting the burden onto the people,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, the escalating conflict in West Asia is placing direct pressure on the supply of oil, gas, and food, as well as global living costs. However, the government is still taking into account the needs of certain groups, as e-hailing drivers and gig workers continue to enjoy a usage limit of up to 800 litres.

In addition, he said that Sabah and Sarawak will continue to benefit from subsidised diesel at a price of RM2.15 per litre, with stricter controls to curb leakages and smuggling.

“This subsidy is the people’s right, not an opportunity for smugglers to plunder the nation’s wealth. That is why enforcement must be strengthened, and the people must continue to act as the government’s eyes and ears in preventing leakages,” he said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a special message, announced that the government will implement a temporary adjustment to BUDI95 eligibility from 300 litres per month to 200 litres per month starting April 1, following the conflict in West Asia.

However, to ease the burden on the people, the Prime Minister said that the BUDI95 initiative will remain at RM1.99 per litre.

Meanwhile, Adam Adli stressed that Malaysia will continue to play a fair, firm, and principled role in issues concerning West Asia, with the Prime Minister holding discussions with regional leaders to seek peaceful solutions while protecting national interests.
