KUANTAN, March 29 (Bernama) -- Air quality in Rompin remained at an unhealthy level this afternoon, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) recorded at 152 due to a fire at an oil palm plantation.
Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System showed the API reading stayed at 152 from 9 am until 5 pm.
Pahang Department of Environment director Zakaria Ahmad said the plantation fire contributed to the increase in air pollution.
He advised the public to reduce outdoor activities and take care of their health, especially those in high-risk groups.
Zakaria said notices had been issued to the plantation manager to control the fire and submit a report to the department.
He also reminded the public to avoid open burning, which is an offence and can result in heavy fines or imprisonment.
