KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) has called on industry players to take advantage of the RM5 million fund provided under the Public Private Research Network (PPRN) initiative to enhance company productivity.
The ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) Datuk Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian said the initiative, which began in 2015, has recorded the implementation of more than 700 innovation projects involving collaborations between public and private universities and industry players.
He said the initiative aims to cultivate knowledge transfer and expertise from researchers in higher education institutions (HEIs) through research collaborations with local companies that may lack expertise and capital.
“The government provides allocations whereby for small companies, we will fund up to 90 per cent of research costs, while the remaining 10 per cent is borne by the company itself.
“For medium-sized companies, the allocation may be shared on a 50-50 basis. What is important is that we want to cultivate a research culture within companies,” he said when appearing as a guest on the ‘Apa Khabar Malaysia’ programme broadcast by Bernama TV today.
Meanwhile, Megat Sany said the PPRN Conference themed ‘Academia-Industry Collaboration’ will be held at a hotel here on April 7 to promote best practices and showcase innovative products generated through the programme.
He said the conference, which is open to all, will also highlight and share success stories achieved through collaborations between higher education institutions and industry under the initiative, serving as inspiration for local companies.
Companies interested in participating in the PPRN initiative can obtain further information and apply via the epprn.mohe.gov.my website or the official PPRN Facebook page.
