KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), which celebrates its 80th anniversary today, has been described by both Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as an important medium that remains relevant in delivering information to all segments of society across the country.
In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid said that over eight decades, RTM has remained “Teman Setia Anda” (Your Loyal Companion), always close to the people through every moment, whether in times of joy or during national challenges.
“From radio broadcasts to today’s digital platforms, RTM continues to play its role as a provider of accurate and up-to-date information.
“May RTM remain relevant, trusted and continue to serve as a primary platform in uniting Malaysians. To all RTM personnel, I wish you a Happy 80th Anniversary,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fadillah said RTM’s role is becoming increasingly important in ensuring that the public continues to receive accurate, balanced and reliable information, especially amid global uncertainties and technological advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Fadillah, RTM must continue to move forward in delivering authentic information while developing local talent, promoting creative works, and utilising technology prudently to remain relevant, credible and serve as a key medium in fostering unity and national identity.
“Thank you to all RTM staff for your dedication, commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring information reaches the people accurately and with integrity.
“May RTM continue to progress, remain a leader in public broadcasting, and serve as a bridge for unity among Malaysians, for the well-being of the people and the nation’s prosperity,” he said in a Facebook post.
RTM was established on April 1, 1946, beginning as a radio broadcasting station, while television services were introduced on Dec 28, 1963.
