BURSA MALAYSIA ENDS MORNING SESSION SLIGHTLY LOWER

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia retreated to end the morning trading session marginally lower today due to cautious sentiments, as investors remain watchful of external risks.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 1.10 points, or 0.07 per cent, to 1,616.46 from Friday’s close of 1,617.57.

The benchmark index, which opened 2.57 points higher at 1,620.14, moved between 1,615.47 and 1,621.26 during the session.

Market breadth was negative with 501 decliners surpassing 454 gainers. A total of 538 counters were unchanged, 1,294 untraded and 28 suspended.

Turnover amounted to 3.26 billion units valued at RM1.50 billion.

Regionally, Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 2.40 per cent to 48.625.88, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.42 per cent to 25,578.88, and Singapore's Straits Times Index was slightly higher, inching up 0.41 per cent to 4,487.26.

Among heavyweights, Maybank and Public Bank rose two sen to RM9.96 and RM4.30, respectively, CIMB added five sen to RM7.51, TNB was flat at RM13.10 and IHH lost six sen to RM8.06.

On the most active list, Tanco increased two sen to RM1.06, Zetrix and Velesto eased half a sen each to 80.5 sen and 23.5 sen respectively, while TWL rose half a sen to three sen.

Top gainers included Malaysian Pacific, which climbed 46 sen to RM31.24, F&N edged up RM1.18 sen to RM33.80 and Dutch Lady added 50 sen to RM29, while Unisem and Mesiniaga both increased 14 sen to RM3.32 and RM1.34, respectively.

As for the top losers, Petronas Chemical lost 24 sen to RM3.01, Mega First slipped 12 sen to RM3.45, Chin Teck slid 12 sen to RM10.66, and Arka dropped 11 sen to 74 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 6.88 points to 12,003.69, the FBMT 100 Index advanced 6.62 points to 11,776.73 and the FBM Mid 70 Index climbed 73.55 points to 16,914.58.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 12.07 points to 11,980.61 and the FBM ACE Index shed 47.23 points to 4,894.36.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index bagged 60.74 points to 18,436.74, the Plantation Index slipped 18.77 points to 8,217.86, the Energy Index declined 0.29 of a point to 755.67, and the Industrial Products and Services Index shed 0.84 of a point to 164.09
