KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia traded higher in the morning session, mirroring the upbeat performance of regional peers and supported by positive sentiment following Wall Street’s strong overnight gains.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 10.84 points, or 0.67 per cent, to 1,636.23, compared with Thursday’s close of 1,625.39.
The index opened 2.83 points lower at 1,622.56 and moved between 1,622.03 and 1,636.50 throughout the morning session.
Market breadth was positive, with 558 gainers beating 360 decliners. Another 485 counters were unchanged, 1,365 remained untraded, and 16 were suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.69 billion units worth RM1.06 billion.
In a note today, Apex Securities Bhd said that the FBM KLCI is expected to trade with an upward bias, supported by improved global liquidity sentiment following the United States Federal Reserve’s rate cut and a resilient US equity backdrop.
The securities firm said it remains constructive on selected power-ancillary and renewable energy counters, underpinned by structural tailwinds from the ongoing energy transition.
“These secular themes are expected to remain resilient despite prevailing global trade headwinds and will continue to attract rotational interest given their steady earnings visibility,” it said.
