KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained lower at mid-afternoon with the benchmark index decreasing by 0.48 per cent due to persistent selling activities in selected heavyweights led by financial services counters.
At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 7.93 points to 1,640.38 from Tuesday’s close of 1,648.31.
The index had opened 2.99 points lower at 1,645.32.
Market breadth was negative, with decliners outnumbering gainers 482 to 457. A further 489 stocks were unchanged, 1,348 untraded and 12 suspended.
Turnover amounted to 1.66 billion shares valued at RM1.16 billion.
Among heavyweights, Maybank and CIMB fell eight sen each to RM10.28 and RM7.90, Public Bank slipped six sen to RM4.41, IHH Healthcare lost 13 sen to RM8.59, while Tenaga Nasional rose four sen to RM13.18.
On the most active list, Zetrix AI and Top Glove inched down half sen each to 80.5 sen and 63 sen, while Velesto and V.S Industry gained half sen each to 28 sen and 49 sen, and Tanco gained one sen to RM1.16.
Top gainers included Malaysian Pacific Industries, which climbed 60 sen to RM32.10, Hong Leong Industries increased 20 sen to RM15.88, UMS Integrated gained 18 sen to RM4.36, UWC added 15 sen to RM4.12, and Gamuda advanced 12 sen to RM4.89.
Besides IHH Healthcare, among the top losers were Kuala Lumpur Kepong, which lost 34 sen to RM19.46, Hong Leong Financial Group slid 26 sen to RM18.02, FCW fell 20 sen to RM1.80, and Quality Concrete inched down 14 sen to RM1.12.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index declined 41.08 points to 12,058.12, the FBMT Top 100 Index dropped 47.82 points to 11,853.01, the FBM Mid 70 Index decreased 24.47 points to 16,594.13, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index trimmed 10.46 points to 11,900.04, while the FBM ACE Index edged up 6.37 points to 4,743.79.
Sector-wise, the Energy Index inched up 3.22 points to 763.28, while the Plantation Index slid 12.37 points to 8,167.66, the Financial Services Index narrowed 158.96 points to 19,157.11, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged down 0.03 of a point to 169.46.
