BURSA MALAYSIA TURNS NEGATIVE AT MID-MORNING

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia turned negative at mid-morning amid a lack of catalysts. 

At 11.07 am, the FBM KLCI fell 8.71 points to 1,671.61 from Monday’s close of 1,680.32. The benchmark had started the day 1.91 points lower at 1,678.41.

Market breadth was slightly negative with losers edging past gainers 437 to 412, while 511 counters were unchanged, 1,289 untraded, and 11 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.12 billion units worth RM764.0 million.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank jumped 12 sen to RM10.68, SD Guthrie added two sen to RM5.67 and RHB Bank advanced seven sen to RM7.80, while CIMB trimmed 24 sen to RM8, Public Bank went down one sen to RM4.55 and TNB depreciated 12 sen to RM13.62. 

On the most active list, MMAG rose one sen to eight sen, Zetrix AI and VS Industry edged up half-a-sen each to 81 sen and 48 sen, respectively, Capital A increased two sen to 44.5 sen, Tanco was flat at RM1.18 and GDB Holdings declined half-a-sen to 36.5 sen.  

Among the top gainers, Nestle expanded by RM1.60 to RM117.30, Panasonic surged 24 sen to RM7.73, Allianz bagged 20 sen to RM20.44 and LPI Capital improved by 18 sen to RM14.76.

Of the top decliners, Petronas Dagangan decreased 32 sen to RM19.72 and TM went down 18 sen to RM7.68, while Hong Leong Financial Group and TNB dipped 12 sen each to RM19.36 and RM13.62, respectively. 

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index lost 38.92 points to 12,311.28, the FBM Top 100 Index discounted 43.82 points to 12,107.41, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 32.43 points to 12,098.45. 

The FBM Mid 70 Index garnered 25.07 points to 17,080.12, and the FBM ACE Index notched up 17.81 points to 4,946.56.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index decreased by 56.39 points to 19,772.64, the Energy Index edged down 1.97 points to 767.04, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 1.03 points to 172.85, and the Plantation Index fell 4.45 points to 8,299.36.
