KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session in negative territory, weighed down by continued profit-taking in most heavyweight counters.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 5.53 points or 0.33 per cent to 1,705.28, compared to Wednesday’s close of 1,710.91.

The market barometer, which opened 0.56 of-a-point lower at 1,710.35, oscillated between 1,701.83 and 1,710.35 during the session.

Market breadth was negative with decliners outnumbering gainers 562 to 372, while 527 counters were unchanged, 1,177 untraded and 21 suspended.

In a note today, Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said it anticipates some profit-taking in the local bourse after its recent extended rally, following Wall Street’s negative overnight performance.

“Nevertheless, we believe the support should be located above the 1,700 level.

“In terms of sectors, we expect the utilities sector to remain a key focus in 2026 as the ongoing data centre boom will require vast amounts of water for server cooling, which could reignite buying interest in stocks such as Ranhill Utilities Bhd,” it said.
