KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia’s benchmark index climbed past the 1,760 mark at midmorning, buoyed by sustained buying interest across most heavyweight stocks, particularly in the banking and property sectors.
At 11.11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 17.25 points to 1,761.32 from Monday’s close at 1,744.07, after starting the session 5.18 points higher at 1,749.25.
Market breadth was positive with gainers outnumbering decliners 574 to 388. A total of 517 counters were unchanged, 1,259 untraded, and 66 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.40 billion shares worth RM1.19 billion.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank added 14 sen to RM11.64, Public Bank gained 11 sen to RM4.98, CIMB jumped 12 sen to RM8.74, Tenaga Nasional increased four sen to RM14.02 and IHH Healthcare expanded five sen to RM8.71.
On the most active list, Capital A lost two sen to 57 sen and One Gasmaster slid 3.5 sen to 21.5 sen, while Zetrix AI added one sen to 82.5 sen, AirAsia X rose two sen to RM2.21 and SP Setia was four sen higher at 99.5 sen.
Top gainers Hong Leong Financial Group jumped 54 sen to RM21.84, Malayan Cement increased 35 sen to RM8.10, Bursa Malaysia added 26 sen to RM8.96, Hong Leong Bank put on 24 sen to RM24.74 and Sunway garnered 18 sen to RM5.88.
As for the leading decliners, Nestle slipped 80 sen to RM115.20 and QL Resources shed 10 sen to RM4.15, while Fraser & Neave and Petronas Gas were 10 sen lower at RM36.04 and RM18.48, respectively.
On the broader market, the FBM Top 100 Index widened 113.45 points to 12,713.62, the FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 108.57 points to 17,739.40, the FBM Emas Index expanded 110.30 points to 12,909.45, the FBM Emas Shariah Index bagged 76.75 points to 12,477.14, and the FBM ACE Index rose 13.24 points to 4,861.95.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index surged 319.33 points to 21,516.56, the Plantation Index ticked up 0.07 of a point to 8,445.21, the Energy Index improved 0.72 points to 765.58, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 2.48 points to 179.76.
