BURSA MALAYSIA REMAINS IN NEGATIVE TERRITORY AT MID-AFTERNOON

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained in negative territory at mid-afternoon due to profit-taking in selected heavyweights led by financial services counters.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 1.41 per cent or 24.77 points to 1,731.72 from Wednesday’s close of 1,756.49, after opening 3.18 points lower at 1,753.31.

In the broader market, losers thumped gainers 799 to 289, some 525 counters were unchanged, 1,106 counters were untraded and 109 were suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.11 billion shares valued at RM2.29 billion.

Among heavyweights, Maybank dropped 14 sen to RM11.66, Public Bank shed nine sen to RM4.86, CIMB declined by 19 sen to RM8.46, Tenaga Nasional decreased by eight sen to RM14.00, and IHH Healthcare dipped 17 sen to RM8.85.

On the most active list, Capital A added 4.5 sen to 63 sen, TWL Holdings inched up half-a-sen to 2.5 sen, and ISF Group gained 5.5 sen to 53.5 sen, while Zetrix AI eased 1.5 sen to 80.5 sen and Velesto Energy slipped half-a-sen to 30 sen. 

Among the top gainers, Nestle advanced 90 sen to RM114.40, VSTECS jumped 16 sen to RM4.19, Binastra Corporation went up seven sen to RM2.15, and LAC Med climbed six sen to RM1.04. 

As for the top decliners, Fraser & Neave decreased 98 sen to RM34.52, and Hong Leong Bank dropped 68 sen to RM24.16. Allianz Malaysia, PPB Group and Batu Kawan shed 36 sen each to RM22.88, RM11.04 and RM19.40, respectively. 

On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index dipped 157.71 points to 12,499.47, the FBM Emas Index slid 158.36 points to 12,689.03, the FBM Mid 70 Index sank 124.74 points to 17,438.49, the FBM Emas Shariah Index slipped 120.10 points to 12,276.17, and the FBM ACE Index gave up 9.52 points to 4,737.24.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index tumbled 367.24 points to 21,140.44, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 2.00 points to 176.01, the Energy Index shed 8.67 points to 748.76, and the Plantation Index declined 78.51 points to 8,366.27.
