KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia stayed in positive territory at mid-afternoon, supported by continued buying in selected heavyweights, particularly in the industrial products and services as well as plantation sectors.
At 3.05 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) edged up 1.27 points to 1,731.08 from Wednesday’s close of 1,729.81, after opening 6.52 points lower at 1,723.29.
Market breadth, however, was negative, with losers outpacing gainers 666 to 351. A total of 455 counters were unchanged, 1,294 untraded and 11 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.96 billion units valued at RM1.80 billion.
Heavyweights saw Petronas Chemicals rise 21 sen to RM5.11, SD Guthrie gain 12 sen to RM5.94 and Press Metal Aluminium add 10 sen to RM7.76. IHH Healthcare fell 29 sen to RM9.10, while YTL Corporation slipped 6.0 sen to RM1.71.
On the most active list, Sunway Healthcare increased 4.0 sen to RM1.89, Zetrix AI shed 1.5 sen to 77.5 sen, GDB eased half-a-sen to 37.5 sen, Tanco declined 1.0 sen to RM1.39, while TWL was unchanged at 2.5 sen.
Among the top gainers, Kuala Lumpur Kepong surged 44 sen to RM20.10, PPB rose 34 sen to RM11.38 and Dutch Lady Milk Industries gained 30 sen to RM32.00. Negri Sembilan Oil Palms advanced 25 sen to RM6.10, while Chin Teck Plantations added 22 sen to RM11.02.
Top losers included Nestle, which dropped RM1.74 to RM99.16, Fraser & Neave, down 98 sen to RM30.82, and Malaysian Pacific Industries, which lost 50 sen to RM29.70. Malayan Cement declined 32 sen to RM6.63, while Hong Leong Bank slipped 20 sen to RM23.00.
On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index fell 19.04 points to 12,443.14, the FBM Emas Index declined 26.13 points to 12,588.64 and the FBM 70 Index dropped 153.87 points to 17,126.50. The FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 14.83 points to 12,272.18, while the FBM ACE Index slid 59.67 points to 4,390.11.
By sector, the Financial Services Index shed 12.68 points to 20,880.34. The Industrial Products and Services Index rose 0.65 of-a-point to 181.26, the Energy Index gained 7.93 points to 791.68 and the Plantation Index climbed 82.40 points to 8,680.91.
