JELEBU, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- The completion of the transmitter station at Gunung Telapak Buruk in Jelebu in 2023 has provided 1.2 million residents around Negeri Sembilan with free access to digital television broadcasts.

MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd (MYTV) chief operating officer Azlina Mohd Yusof said which has been operational since Sept 23 last year, provides coverage to residents in Negeri Sembilan, including Port Dickson, Rembau, Kuala Pilah, Seremban, Jempol, Simpang Pertang, and Kuala Klawang in Jelebu.

According to her, the Gunung Telapak Buruk transmitter also provides broadcast coverage to residents in Bera, Pahang, and Sepang, Selangor.

“Residents can access free digital television broadcasts by connecting their television to an external antenna,” she told Bernama recently.

She was met during a visit to the Gunung Telapak Buruk Transmitter Station, which was also attended by Negeri Sembilan Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) director Md Tahir Musa and Telekom Malaysia (TM) general manager (Negeri Sembilan/Melaka) Zahariman Muhammad.

This working visit is part of a strategic partnership between MCMC, MYTV, and TM to evaluate the current performance of MYTV’s digital TV coverage and its role in improving quality and providing sustainable digital connectivity to local communities.

Azlina said that the transmitter station is the second of its kind in Negeri Sembilan, with the first being the Bukit Tampin Transmitter Station, built in April 2017.

Currently, MYTV offers 14 television channels and 17 digital radio stations nationwide, with this number expected to grow over time.

Meanwhile, Kuala Klawang assemblyman Datuk Bakri Sawir said the free MYTV coverage greatly benefits the B40 group, especially those in rural areas, as it facilitates access to information from the government.

Ulu Jelebu Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairman Abdul Rani Rashid expressed his gratitude to the government for providing free services to villagers.

Norhayati Johari, 53, said that the MYTV broadcasts meet her family’s needs, allowing her and her five children to watch a variety of programmes without having to pay a monthly fee.

“The free broadcast allows me to watch programmes without thinking about the monthly cost,” said the housewife, who previously subscribed to a paid service.

To date, over 6,000 MYTV decoders have been distributed in Negeri Sembilan, with over 20,000 expected to be provided by next month.
