ENERGY COMMISSION TO ISSUE GUIDELINES AS REGULATORY FRAMEWORK FOR CRESS - PETRA

20/09/2024 01:01 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The Energy Commission will issue guidelines as a regulatory framework for industry players and stakeholders interested in participating in the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), said the Ministry of Energy Transition and Natural Resources (PETRA).

Under the CRESS programme, eligible renewable energy (RE) generators and corporate companies can arrange for green electricity supply under agreed terms through the existing supply system.

In a statement today, the ministry said it is confident that CRESS will drive energy transition goals and boost the electricity supply sector, aiming to increase RE capacity from the current 26 per cent to 40 per cent by 2035 and 70 per cent by 2050.

“This initiative will play a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of the electricity supply sector and decreasing the country's dependence on fossil fuels for power generation,” it said.

PETRA added that interested parties can download the CRESS guidelines from the Energy Commission’s website.

The scheme will provide corporate consumers with broader green electricity supply options, enabling them to meet their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments through the concept of third-party access.
