KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- In the aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Kristine, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. has expressed his gratitude to Malaysia for providing critical assistance during the relief efforts.

In a post on his Facebook page on November 4, the President conveyed his appreciation during a conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, highlighting the significant impact of Malaysia's support on the affected communities.

"Today, I spoke with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to personally thank him and the people of Malaysia for their invaluable help after Typhoon Kristine,” read the post.

He acknowledged that the air support provided by Malaysia played a crucial role in reaching areas severely impacted by flooding, ensuring that aid was delivered to families who would otherwise have been inaccessible.

The president's message also emphasised the solidarity within the ASEAN community, noting that the collective support during such crises strengthens regional bonds.

"In this time of mourning the lives lost, it is also heartening to see how our friends in ASEAN have responded with support in our time of need. This kind of solidarity is what strengthens our region," he added.

President Marcos concluded his post with a note of gratitude in Malay, saying, "Terima kasih, Malaysia," which translates to “Thank you, Malaysia.”

Typhoon Kristine, which struck the Philippines late last week, caused widespread destruction and left numerous areas submerged in floodwaters.

The swift and coordinated response from neighbouring ASEAN countries, particularly Malaysia, has been instrumental in the ongoing relief efforts.
