ALOR SETAR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has continued its remarkable performance, securing 79th place this year, up from 101st last year, in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025 announced this afternoon.
UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan said this achievement was driven by improvements in academic reputation indicators, reflecting global confidence in UUM's contributions to academia, particularly in high-impact research, as well as its success in producing quality graduates.
"This is UUM’s best performance in the QS Asia rankings since 2015. This outstanding achievement is the result of the collective effort of the entire UUM community, especially the academic staff dedicated to conducting high-quality research, teaching, and publishing.
"Even more significant is that this achievement coincides with UUM’s 40th anniversary, highlighting the university's growing maturity and its emerging prominence on the international and Asian stage," he said in a statement today.
He also expressed his gratitude to the UUM family, particularly the lecturers, who tirelessly contribute to the world of research and publishing, as well as enhancing the quality of graduates.
Dr Mohd Foad said the increase in citation per paper also demonstrates that UUM's research is increasingly recognised and referenced by researchers worldwide, particularly in management, further supporting UUM's vision to become a leading management university.
"With this latest achievement, UUM has proven its ongoing commitment to raising academic and research standards, enhancing its role as one of the leading universities in Malaysia and Asia," he added.
The QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025 employs 11 indicators to assess universities, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, staff with PhDs, papers per faculty, international research network, citations per paper, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange students, and outbound exchange students.
In the 2025 edition, 984 universities were ranked, with 142 listed for the first time. This year, QS analysed over 1.9 million academic responses and 660,000 employer responses.
