KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) today held the Santuni Komuniti MADANI programme with the residents of Kampung Baru, which is the Kampung Angkat MADANI (adopted village initiative) of the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.
Mohd Na’im said that 750 residents benefited from various activities, marking the beginning of a continued effort by agencies under his ministry to engage with the people effectively, regardless of race or religion.
“As a native of Kampung Baru, I feel a personal responsibility to assist the needs of the villagers in various aspects, particularly those related to my role at the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs).
“I have also distributed donations worth RM49,955 to the asnaf group and residents in Kampung Baru,” he said when met after the closing ceremony of the Santuni Komuniti MADANI programme here, today.
The programme was jointly organised by Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (YWM), TV Al-Hijrah, and the Department of Waqf, Zakat and Hajj (JAWHAR).
Mohd Na’im said that the programme serves as a platform for the government and its agencies to engage with and assist the community, particularly those in need.
“Together with all the religious agencies under my administration, we will continue to promote Islamic social finance instruments, such as zakat (tithe) and waqf (endowment), to help strengthen the socio-economic standing of the people in Kampung Baru.
“We will also listen to and address the issues faced by the residents, whether in terms of social, educational, or welfare matters,” he added.
According to Mohd Na’im, the programme aligns with one of the six core values of Malaysia MADANI, introduced by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which is to show compassion for the community - a key principle in the vision of a compassionate Malaysia.
It is also based on the Al-Falah Transformation Plan, which focuses on the well-being of individuals through sustainable economic and social welfare, as well as strengthening community unity, he said.
Nine activities were carried out, including the Kayuhan Prihatin Wakaf; Santuni Asnaf; Keceriaan Sekolah; Walkabout; free breakfast distribution; gotong-royong to prepare Bubur Lambuk; free haircuts and health check-ups.
This event followed the launch of the Santuni MADANI programme, which was officiated by Mohd Na’im on July 27, at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru.
