YAN, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- More than 3,000 residents of Yan turned out for the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) Jualan Kasih MADANI programme, held at the Dewan Desa KEDA Singkir Badong, near here, today, which offered 53 daily essentials at discounted prices.

KEDA chairman Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the programme, which ran from 9 am to noon, provided local residents with an opportunity to purchase necessities such as rice, fresh fish, vegetables, and fruits directly from entrepreneurs, with savings of up to 30 per cent.

“The sale received an overwhelming response when it was previously held at the KEDA headquarters in Alor Setar and Sik. Our goal is to alleviate the financial burden on the people and offer them some relief,” he said after officiating at the event.

He added that the sale also served as a platform to promote local entrepreneurs, featuring 20 products, including air sagat and other traditional sweets, as well as other local delicacies. In addition, KEDA offered special deals, including a combo sale priced at RM15, and a happy hour promotion at RM10, which included three essential items: chicken, cooking oil, and sugar.

In addition to the existing assistance programs, Jamil Akhir mentioned that KEDA remains committed to supporting the government's efforts to alleviate the cost of living burden currently faced by the people.

“Following the success in Yan, KEDA will hold the Jualan Kasih MADANI in Napoh, Kubang Pasu, at the end of this month. We also plan to continue organising this sale in other districts, in collaboration with the Kedah Federal Agricultural Marketing Board (FAMA),” he said.

Meanwhile, Sharifah Hashim, 62, from Desa KEDA Singkir Badong, shared that she arrived early, queuing at 9 am, and was able to purchase rice, chicken, meat, eggs, and other essentials at significantly lower prices compared to regular stores.

“It’s very affordable here. If I were to buy these items outside, the total cost would exceed RM250, but here, I’m able to get them for a much lower price. I believe the KEDA Jualan Kasih MADANI initiative is excellent, and truly helps the underprivileged,” she said.
