ALOR SETAR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Santuni MADANI programme in Kampung Hilir, Kepala Batas, near here, serves as a platform to demonstrate the leaders' commitment to the local community, while also bringing government services closer to the people.

Food stall operator Muhamad Faizal Ismail, 39, said that through the programme, the people not only have the opportunity to meet leaders who were born or raised in the village, but they are also exposed to various government services.

“The Santuni MADANI programme is excellent; it brings government services directly to the people. I’m eager to see what assistance and services are provided by government agencies during this programme," he said.

“Today’s event is vibrant and lively. It seems like it could be held more often. I would like to thank the secretary-general of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and everyone involved in this programme,” he added.

A native of Kampung Hilir, Muhamad Faizal also expressed his gratitude for being chosen as a recipient of zakat contributions from Telekom Malaysia (TM) and basic necessities from Econsave Supermarket.

Another attendee, Nur Atirah Najwa Roslan, 25, also expressed her gratitude to the programme’s organisers, for selecting her grandmother as one of the recipients of zakat (tithe) contributions from TM.

“My 75-year-old grandmother, Che Ah Awang, is in poor health. I live alone with her, so this assistance will help me purchase daily necessities,” she said.

Earlier, over 1,000 residents attended the MADANI Santuni programme in Kampung Hilir, the birthplace of Mohamad Fauzi, which was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Tinggi, near here.

The programme aims to strengthen the leaders' commitment to the community while addressing the challenges faced by the villagers. Additionally, it seeks to empower the local community by fostering engagement and identifying opportunities for growth.

During the event, Mohamad Fauzi presented zakat contributions from TM and basic necessities from Econsave Supermarket to more than 20 asnaf recipients, including village residents and school students.

The event was attended by over 20 government agencies, including the National Registration Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department, Kedah State Library, National Science Centre, National Anti-Drug Agency, Civil Defence Force, and various agencies under the Ministry of Communications.

Also present were Information Department director-general Julina Johan and SK Bukit Tinggi headmaster Mohd Hadi Saad.
