BATU KAWAN, 16 Nov (Bernama) -- Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulau Aman today received a new boat to facilitate easier access for pupils and teachers commuting to school.

Penang education director Wan Sajiri Wan Hassan said the RM218,097 boat, along with a boat trailer worth RM30,000, were purchased to replace the old one, which had been damaged.

"SK Pulau Aman is the only school in Penang that relies on water transport for the movement of teachers and pupils.

"On behalf of the Penang Education Department, I would like to express our gratitude to the Education Ministry’s procurement division," he said during the handover ceremony today.

At the event, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek presented a replica of the boat key to SK Pulau Aman headmistress Rohayu Ibrahim, as well as donations to two students from the school.

Wan Sajiri shared that the school has 26 students and eight teachers, with six students and seven teachers commuting daily by boat from outside the Pulau Aman area.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina said that issues related to education access and logistics are always a priority for her ministry to ensure that no one is left behind, pointing out that the handover of the boat was a clear sign of its commitment to the safety of teachers and pupils, particularly during their travel to and from Pulau Aman.

“This shows our strong commitment to ensuring the safety of both pupils and teachers. Of course, this initiative (the provision of the boat) will be expanded to other areas, especially to island schools where we have teachers and students,” she said.

She also shared that her ministry, through the state education department, was looking into designating SK Pulau Aman as a digital school to produce more digitally literate pupils who are able to use technology in an integrated, creative, innovative, responsible, and ethical manner.

"In terms of facilities, teacher involvement, student engagement, and digital empowerment, this school is one of those with the potential to become a fully digital school for the state of Penang," she added.
