BANGKOK, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Ministry, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), has launched the “VIJIT CHAO PHRAYA 2024,” a spectacular light and cultural showcase along the Chao Phraya River.

The event aims to attract both domestic and international visitors during the year-end season, boosting tourism and generating significant economic activity.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said the event aligns with Thailand’s vision of becoming one of the world’s top five tourism revenue-generating destinations, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural heritage through robust public-private partnerships.

“We aim to generate at least 600 million baht in revenue, enhance local tourism income, and encourage longer stays along the Chao Phraya River,” she told reporters on Saturday.

On Friday evening, Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong officiated the event’s Lighting and Illumination ceremony, accompanied by foreign diplomats and members of the media on a cruise along the Chao Phraya River.

From November 16 to December 15, Bangkok’s riverfront will come alive each evening with dazzling light displays, laser shows, projection mapping, Thai cultural performances, and fireworks at seven iconic landmarks across 14 key locations.

The seven featured landmarks include the Rama VIII Bridge, Royal Navy Institute, Wat Arun, Wat Kalayanamitr, Sunanthalai Building (Rajini School), Memorial Bridge (Phra Phuttha Yodfa), and an abandoned building at Soi Lhong 1919.

These free-to-attend performances will be held daily from 6pm to 10pm, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking displays from various riverfront locations.
