DUBAI, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- The 2024 Malaysia International Halal Showcase expo in Dubai (MIHAS@ Dubai 2024) can exceed the initial export sales target of RM1 billion, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

With a new export sales target of RM1.2 billion, he said the inaugural expo, held from Nov 18-20, represents a significant achievement for Malaysia's halal industry, recording an outstanding RM500 million in export sales on the first day.

Ahmad Zahid said the expo in Dubai is the first MIHAS expo to be held outside of Malaysia, highlighting the country's commitment to internationalising the halal industry and strengthening its position as a global leader in the rapidly growing halal economy.

“MIHAS@Dubai 2024 has enhanced Malaysia’s halal ecosystem by providing a platform for 215 Malaysian companies to showcase the excellence and diversity of halal products and services.

"This expo opens a new chapter for Malaysian businesses to penetrate the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets, which now comprise over 490 million consumers, further fostering meaningful partnerships and driving long-term growth," he said during a press conference after concluding his working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today.

Also present were MATRADE chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and its chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz

The three-day MIHAS@Dubai 2024 was organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

The event was held alongside the Middle East Organic and Natural Products Expo, supported by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.

Meanwhile, Mohd Mustafa expressed his confidence that active participation from relevant agencies and ministries in promoting halal products and services will ensure that suppliers can meet market demands.

“Companies are also actively promoting local products, and here is where MATRADE plays a key role in creating opportunities that enhance their competitiveness and stimulate manufacturing activities.

"In shaa Allah (God willing), with the cooperation of all ministries and agencies, we will achieve the set objectives,” he said.

During the press conference, Ahmad Zahid also highlighted that the expo reflects the importance of halal diplomacy, which continues to position Malaysia as a strong trading partner in the global halal market.

Aside from trade, he said MIHAS@Dubai 2024 has strengthened Malaysia’s reputation as a provider of high-quality halal products, further catalysing future collaborations and economic growth.

"Additionally, Malaysia’s trade relations with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries remain strong, reflecting the growing economic cooperation," he added.

Ahmad Zahid added that the success of MIHAS@Dubai 2024 is a clear testament to Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive, innovative, and resilient global halal ecosystem.

He noted that the exhibition not only strengthens international trade relations but also lays a solid foundation for long-term strategic cooperation that can support sustainable economic growth.

“Moving forward, I am confident that Malaysia, through the tireless efforts of agencies like MATRADE, will continue to leverage opportunities like MIHAS to strengthen the country’s position in the global halal market.

"This includes ensuring sustainable economic growth, creating more high-quality jobs, and fostering balanced and inclusive prosperity for businesses, communities, and future generations,” he added.
