DAYA KERJAYA 2.0 PROGRAMME TO ASSIST VULNERABLE GROUPS

25/11/2024 06:45 PM

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Human Resources Ministry’s (KESUMA) Daya Kerjaya 2.0 programme by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) will provide hope for vulnerable groups, including former inmates, persons with disabilities, retirees and senior citizens.

Johor Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han said the work placement programme aimed at vulnerable groups offers work and wages of higher value.

“Based on Perkeso statistics from January till Nov 8, 836 senior citizens in the state got jobs under this programme, which involves 541 employers with a recommended incentive payment of RM4.5 million,” he said in reply to an oral question by Rashidah Ramli (BN-Parit Raja), who wanted to know if Perkeso conducted a study and was suggesting to expand its policy so that insured individuals aged 60 to 65 could receive contribution benefits.

Lee also said that employers are given special incentives of RM1,500 for six months to hire workers from the targeted groups as KESUMA and Perkeso understood that Malaysia is expected to become an ageing country by 2030 when 15.3 per cent of the population will be 60 and above.

Therefore, he stressed that the ministry was studying how to strengthen the social security system for all workers, especially the private sector and the self-employed, against any post-retirement crisis due to a lack of savings upon retirement age under the framework of the Human Resources Policy 2025-2030.

“The ministry and Perkeso, through the state government, will collaborate to enure that the vulnerable groups, including retirees and senior citizens, are still an active priority source of labour in the country.

“The Daya Kerjaya 2.0 programme was created to enable the vulnerable groups to secure jobs,” he added.
