KUALA LUMPUR, 26 Nov (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) are looking at the possibility of extending the implementation of the mySalam scheme for two more years.
Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the mySalam scheme which was originally planned to operate for a period of five years, from 2019 to 2023, has been extended two years until 2025 under Budget 2024.
"The MoF and BNM are looking at the extension of the mySalam scheme for an additional two years while devising a new scheme that can provide insurance and takaful that the B40 group can afford for the long term.
"Accordingly, in Budget 2025, the government has provided RM60 million for the provision of vouchers to finance part of the cost of Perlindungan Tenang products for the B40 group," he said during an oral question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Amir Hamzah was replying to a question from Kalam Salan (PN-Sabak Bernam) regarding the long-term plan for the mySalam scheme so that the scheme continues to be enjoyed by the B40 group and the welfare of the mySalam staff.
Amir Hamzah said the allowance of the mySalam staff appointed under contract by Great Eastern Takaful Bhd (GETB) had been increased to RM110 per day starting Nov 1.
He said that if officers wish to terminate their employment contracts, the takaful industry also provides entrepreneurial opportunities for those officers to become takaful agents or consultants.
