PAHANG APM TO COORDINATE STATE FLOOD AID COLLECTION CENTRE

28/11/2024 08:11 PM

KUANTAN, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Pahang Civil Defence Force (APM), as the state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, will play a key role as the coordinator for the flood aid collection centre.

Pahang APM director Col (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said this is to ensure that necessities are distributed based on needs, and fairly allocated to affected victims.

“Apart from participating in rescue operations, APM also coordinates the flood aid collection centre, and we will manage non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who come to provide aid, to avoid overlap in responsibilities,” he said when appearing as a guest on Pahang FM’s Temu Bual Ekslusif programme today on the state Disaster Management Committee’s flood preparedness.

Che Adam said the department is closely monitoring weather developments in Pahang, as neighbouring states, Terengganu and Kelantan, are already experiencing severe flooding.

He said this monitoring enables effective coordination among all rescue agencies, ensuring swift action to assist the public during disasters.

“Disaster management coordination involves several phases; before, during, after, and mitigation or recovery. At this stage, we are focusing on monitoring.

“However, when disaster strikes, the primary responding teams are the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Fire and Rescue Department, supported by APM and the military. These are the four main agencies responsible for rescue operations,” he explained.

At the same time, Che Adam said that APM welcomed rescue assistance from members of the public who own boats, but emphasised that they must report their activities to the authorities to ensure that all movements are accounted for.
