29/11/2024 08:14 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Rainy weather has not deterred visitors from attending the 2024 Communications Carnival, being held today and tomorrow at IWK Eco Park @ Pantai Dalam.

Local residents seized the opportunity to explore the carnival, open from 9 am to 10 pm, which features various services and activities hosted by the Ministry of Communications.

Salasiah Arsad, 60, a retired private sector worker from the Pantai Ria People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Pantai Dalam said she visited the booths at the carnival to learn about communications-related initiatives.

“I live nearby, so I came to see what’s on offer. The officers at the booth said national emergency hotline and scam awareness talks were being held in the hall, so I joined the session,” she said.

Freelancer Ali Yahya, 40, who attended the carnival after Friday prayers, said he learned about the event through social media and was keen to compare telecommunications services offered there.

Ali also took advantage of the Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) 50 per cent discount on selected summonses.

Rubiah Omar, 65, another retired private sector worker, attended the carnival with her daughter after learning about it via her community WhatsApp group.

The dweller of PPR Seri Cempaka, Pantai Dalam was able to purchase daily essentials like rice, eggs, and cooking oil at the MADANI Rahmah Sale for prices below the market rate.

In addition to agencies under the Ministry of Communications, the carnival also featured participation from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, PDRM, and telecommunications companies like U Mobile, CelcomDigi, Maxis, and YTL (YES).

The 2024 Communications Carnival aims to engage communities with initiatives by the ministry and its agencies, enhance communication literacy, and promote community education.

Among the carnival highlights were the Rahmah Sale, personalised postage stamp printing by Pos Malaysia, telco packages, and a summons payment counter.

The event will conclude on Saturday with the RIUH x Communications Carnival 2024 concert, featuring local artists Bunkface, Naim Daniel, Iman Troye, and MUAH! band.

Further details about the carnival are available at karnival.komunikasi.gov.my and on the official social media platforms of ‘Karnival Komunikasi’ (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and TikTok).
