CHUKAI, Dec 5 (Bernama) – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is ready to organise more Rahmah MADANI Sales (PJRM) programmes in states affected by the first wave of floods.
Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the programme, which offers subsidised prices between 10 and 30 per cent on essential goods, would help ease the burden of people affected by the floods.
"KPDN branches will engage with District Disaster Management Committees to identify areas requiring this programme. While the programme is already in place, we are ready to increase its frequency because we understand those facing such disasters suffer losses. At the very least, the programme can provide some relief," he said.
He spoke to reporters after meeting Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ayer Puteh here today.
Meanwhile, Armizan said that no major issues have been reported regarding the shortage of essential goods or significant price hikes during the first wave of the Northeast Monsoon (MTL).
"KPDN has received a few complaints about supply shortages from certain districts, such as Pasir Mas and Tumpat in Kelantan. We were able to address these issues promptly, so there are no major problems.
"In terms of price movement, we are monitoring the situation. Based on KPDN's observations, there has been no unusual price activity. We hope there will not be any sudden increases," he said.
He added that the ministry has also engaged with Dedicated District Wholeseller (DDW) and Dedicated District Retailer (DDR) to ensure they do not take advantage by raising prices to the detriment of the people.
To prepare for this year’s MTL, the ministry has appointed 1,369 DDRs and 635 DDWs nationwide, permitting them to stockpile controlled goods exceeding 30 per cent of their licensed storage limits during the monsoon season.
Armizan also welcomed assistance from various parties, such as non-governmental organisations and corporate entities to help flood victims.
However, he advised them to source supplies from outside the affected areas or states to avoid causing local shortages.
