PUTRAJAYA, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Turkmenistan will develop several key areas of cooperation in tourism, namely promoting visits and participation in exhibitions, as well as supporting sustainable and green tourism development over a 10-year period (2024-2034).

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC), in a statement here today, said other areas of cooperation include exchanging information and best practices, as well as fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

Malaysia and Turkmenistan officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in conjunction with the official two-day visit of Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow to Malaysia.

According to MOTAC, the primary objective of the MoU is to fortify and advance cooperation between the two nations in the dynamic realm of tourism.

"The MoU was poised to serve the common interests of both countries and significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of their respective peoples," the statement read.

The MoU was officially signed by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Turkmenistan's Minister of Culture, Atageldi Ashirovich Shamuradov.

MOTAC said the strategic partnership is a testament to the commitment of both countries toward fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange and economic growth through the lens of tourism.
