MELAKA'S ZAKAT COLLECTION REACHES RM120 MILLION WITH 3.64 PER CENT INCREASE

MELAKA, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- Zakat collection in Melaka, including zakat on wealth and zakat fitrah, recorded a 3.64 per cent increase, amounting to RM120.32 million from Jan 1 until yesterday, compared to RM116.09 million during the same period last year.

Zakat Melaka, in a statement issued after the Business Zakat Handover Ceremony here today, said RM114.14 million was collected as zakat on wealth, while RM6.19 million was from zakat fitrah.

The statement noted a slight 0.12 per cent decrease in zakat on wealth payers to 48,598 this year compared to 48,655 last year.

"However, the number of zakat fitrah payers rose by 3.52 per cent to 698,061 individuals compared to 674,334 last year.

"This year's highest zakat collection was recorded from income zakat at RM71.42 million, followed by business zakat (RM22.07 million), savings zakat (RM18.31 million), gold and silver zakat (RM1.61 million), share zakat (RM611,917.35), livestock zakat (RM69,758.31), and agricultural zakat (RM49,319.96)," the statement read.

Earlier, during the ceremony, Zakat Melaka received RM4.85 million in business zakat from 16 corporate agencies operating in the state.

In the same statement, Zakat Melaka shared that the business zakat handovers were made by representatives of various agencies, including the Malaysian Board of Land Surveyors (RM1 million), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (RM1 million), TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd (RM509,262), Fazil Agency (RM500,199), Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn Bhd (RM400,000), CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (RM240,000), and Agrobank (RM200,000).

Other corporate contributors included Maybank Islamic Bank (RM130,566.39), Pembangunan Pertanian Melaka Sdn Bhd (RM120,000), Yayasan Melaka (RM100,000), Affin Islamic Bank Berhad (RM100,000), Lembaga Perumahan Melaka (RM100,000), Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (RM90,043.20), Boustead Plantation Berhad (RM82,111), Bank Simpanan Nasional (RM50,000), and the Melaka State Government Officers’ Cooperative (RM20,000).

The contributions were handed over by representatives of the corporate agencies to Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, in the presence of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and the state’s Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman.
