2024 RAHMAH SALES IN PERLIS RECORD OVER RM7 MILLION

23/12/2024 07:57 PM

ARAU, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The 188 sales carried out under the Rahmah Sales banner in Perlis have recorded a sales value of RM7.16 million this year, said the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) state branch director Rohaida Hassan.

She said government subsidies, totalling RM2.6 million, were channelled through the Rahmah Sale series to ensure that essential goods were sold at low prices, to ease the cost of living burden on the people to meet their daily needs.

“The Rahmah Sales received a total of 119,126 visitors, who attended these 188 programmes,” Rohaida said after launching the state-level 2024 Christmas Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP), during a walkabout at a supermarket, here, today.

Rohaida said that monitoring the prices of goods is being carried out with 37 enforcement officers from the state KPDN, on duty throughout the implementation of the Christmas SHMMP, which is in effect from today until Dec 27.

“Price monitoring by enforcement officers involves locations such as night markets and supermarkets,” she said, adding that the Perlis KPDN had received 251 complaints throughout this year, with 180 of these complaints successfully resolved.

Meanwhile, she admitted that vegetable prices in Perlis spiked after the floods which hit Kedah last month, but that the increase was not significant as most traders obtained supplies from Thailand.

“Vegetable prices in Thailand are more stable and transportation is easier, so the rise in vegetable prices in this state is only around 10 to 20 per cent,” she said.

A total of 14 controlled items, listed as essential under the SHMMP, include live old chickens, (only in Sarawak), chicken wings (maximum price in Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan), imported bone-in mutton, imported potatoes (from China), carrots, tomatoes, green bell peppers, red chillies, imported round cabbage, imported large red onions, large yellow onions, and pork belly (meat and fat).
