PERAK PERHILITAN CONFIRMS TIGER TRACKS FOUND NEAR KAMPUNG ORANG ASLI SUNGAI CHOH

IPOH, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- The Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks (Perhilitan) has confirmed receiving a report of a tiger attack on livestock near Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Choh, Ulu Kinta, yesterday.

Perak Perhilitan director Yusoff Shariff said the department had discovered tiger footprints near the scene, along with injuries on the cattle.

“Based on observations, we are certain the tiger that attacked the cattle is an adult.

“However, further details regarding the tiger’s gender and weight will only be known through the cameras installed by Perhilitan personnel in the scene,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

On Dec 20 last year, Perak Perhilitan captured a four-year-old male tiger weighing 90 kg at Rancangan Perumahan Tersusun (RPT) Tanjung Damai after it was found roaming in several residential areas around Ulu Kinta.

Yusoff urged residents to keep an eye on their livestock and avoid letting them roam freely, especially in the area where the incident occurred.

“Place livestock in cages and never let them roam free, as this poses a risk of repeated attacks,” he said.

Yusoff also advised residents using the route near the scene to be cautious and avoid going out alone, particularly at night.

“If you come across the tiger, do not take any action that could pose a risk. Instead, report the incident to us,” he said.
