PORT DICKSON, Dec 27 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan (NS) government will include the Port Dickson (PD) Beach Fiesta in its tourism calendar starting next year, after more than 30 years since the event was last officially held.
State Youth and Sports Development Committee chairman, Mustapha Nagoor said this initiative aims to revive water sports activities, including beach netball, beach football, and decorated boat competitions, which were popular since the event began in the 1990s in the district.
He said that while the aura of the old PD Festival might not be fully revived, efforts to rebrand the programme must continue, in line with current trends and to introduce it to younger generations.
"Port Dickson has been famous for water sports and beach activities for the past 30 years, but after that, it stopped. Only outside parties came to do their own water sports activities. This is why we want to rebrand the programme to align with the new era.
"Our goal is to make the Port Dickson Beach Fiesta an annual event that everyone looks forward to, while also reviving the nostalgia of the old PD Festival for the new generation," he told reporters after officiating the 2024 Port Dickson Beach Fiesta today.
He added that the programme would not only have a significant impact on boosting Negeri Sembilan’s tourism sector but also improve the socio-economic conditions, particularly for residents in the Port Dickson area.
