MANJUNG, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Ayer Tawar pupils will undergo home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) session for eight days following the fire which broke out at the school yesterday.
Perak Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs, and Integration Committee chairman A. Sivanesan said the PdPR session will be implemented from tomorrow until next Friday (Jan 17).
"For now, 32 pupils will attend classes via PdPR for eight days. We are also waiting for the full report from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Public Works Department (JKR) regarding the safety issues and damage that occurred within the next one or two days,” he told a media conference after visiting the school today.
Also present were Beruan Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham as well as Astaka and Pantai Remis assemblymen Jason Ng Thien Yeong and Wong May Ing.
In yesterday's incident, the 87-year-old school building was almost 70 per cent destroyed, with Perak JBPM Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad stating that the fire affected three classrooms, a science laboratory, a store room and a canteen.
Meanwhile, Sivanesan said the construction of the school's new building, which had been planned earlier, has been completed and is awaiting the certificate of fitness (CF) from the relevant authorities.
"The matter has attracted the attention of Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh and (Perak) Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad for us to expedite its approval,” he said.
He said that, in addition, all the school's pupils would receive RM200 in special additional assistance from the Beruas MP, besides early school aid of RM150 to purchase school items.
