SEREMBAN, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The Seremban City Council (MBS) and Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) must ensure the cleanliness of their areas is well-managed as Malaysia assumes the chairmanship of ASEAN starting this month.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, said the state government has proactively engaged in discussions with MBS and MPPD to ensure the smooth organisation of several upcoming meetings in the state.

"I have met with MPPD and MBS, and I want these areas to receive more attention, ensuring they are cleaner, with well-maintained landscapes, and an overall improved atmosphere. This is the most important aspect," he told reporters after chairing the executive council meeting at Wisma Negeri today.

Port Dickson is one of the selected districts to host these meetings, which are expected to take place in September or October this year.

Malaysia officially assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship on Jan 1, 2025, with the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability," reflecting the country's goal of fostering a united and prosperous ASEAN.

Malaysia has previously held the ASEAN Chairmanship in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

ASEAN was founded on Aug 8, 1967, and currently comprises 10 Southeast Asian nations, with Timor-Leste’s full membership still in process.
