PUTRAJAYA, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- The Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim today graced the launching of a book titled "Women in Energy".

Her Royal Highness was received on arrival at about 9 am by Ministry of Economy deputy secretary-general (Sectoral), Datuk Dr Yatimah Sarjiman.

Also present was the chairperson of Yayasan Seri, Nurul Izzah Anwar.

The book entitled "Women in Energy: Pioneers, Innovators and Change Makers in Malaysia" is to celebrate women's contributions in shaping Malaysia's energy transition.

The launch was organised by MyWiE (Malaysia Women in Energy), an advocacy group championing equal opportunity for women in the energy sector.

Yatimah, in her speech highlighted that the energy transition offers a unique opportunity for women to lead and shape the future.

Citing the World Bank's Energy Progress Report 2021, Yatimah said women comprise 32 per cent of the renewable energy workforce globally compared to 22 per cent in oil and gas.

"While these numbers reflect progress, they also underscore the need for continued action," she said.

She said initiatives such as MyWiE, along with national policies promoting gender equality, are crucial to ensuring that opportunities in this evolving landscape are accessible to all.

Yatimah said the stories captured in the book highlight the diverse roles women have played as engineers, innovators, policymakers and advocates and their vital contributions to navigate the challenges of the energy transition.

"These narratives affirm that diversity is not just a moral imperative, it is a strategic advantage in driving innovation and achieving sustainable growth," she said.

The book features 25 inspiring women leaders across the energy sector's value chain.

It also highlights MyWiE as a significant platform for championing diversity and inclusion for women in the energy sector.

The book is also supported by the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC), Petronas Leading Women Network (PLWN) and Shell Women Action Network (SWAN).
