KUANTAN, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 144 out of 191 telecommunications towers under Phase 1 of the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) in Pahang are fully operational, said State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kama.
He said the remaining 47 towers are expected to begin operations by April this year.
"The remaining 47 are awaiting the installation of electronic equipment and telecommunications service networks.
"I have informed the relevant parties that all towers must be completed with communication access by the first quarter of this year, meaning by April 1, all towers must be fully operational. If there are any delays, I urge interim measures to be taken," he said.
He spoke to reporters after attending the ceremony to hand over 45 new telecommunications towers under the project by EDOTCO Group in Sungai Pandan today.
Meanwhile, Fadzli hopes that all districts in Pahang will have a balanced 5G tower infrastructure so that the public can enjoy good internet access while also boosting investor confidence.
"In the manufacturing industry, 5G helps to expedite processes and work. I have expressed my wish to DNB (Digital Nasional Berhad) to carefully review the 5G tower construction distribution, particularly in Raub, Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Maran, and Bera.
"These six districts are lacking compared to others. We do not want any district to be left behind, especially in terms of telecommunication coverage, as this is a necessity for everyone," he said.
Regarding the second phase of JENDELA in Pahang, he added that he is awaiting further information from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Earlier, Communications deputy minister Teo Nie Ching said that the second phase of JENDELA is expected to commence this year.
