SHAH ALAM, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) rescued a vulture on a flyover near the i-City shopping centre yesterday.
Its director Director of Perhilitan Selangor, Wan Mohd Adib Wan Mohd Yusoh, said a team was deployed to rescue the bird, which is listed as Near Threatened (NT) on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, after receiving a report at about 11 am.
He said the vulture, usually found in high mountainous regions of countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Mongolia, and Western China, is believed to have strayed from its usual flight path.
“Similar incidents involving this species have been recorded in Malaysia. When this bird was found, it was in a weak state.
"The bird will be taken to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) for further medical examination and treatment," he said in a statement today.
He also advised the public to exercise caution and avoid taking action on their own if they encounter wild animals.
Earlier, a photo of the predatory bird on a flyover near a shopping centre in Shah Alam went viral on social media.
