PROLINTAS COO CHARGED WITH ACCEPTING RM70,000 BRIBE

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- The chief operating officer of ProLintas pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of accepting a cash bribe of RM70,000 from a construction company two years ago.

Rostam Shahrif Tami, 59, was charged with accepting the bribe from Satunas Technologies Sdn Bhd through one Mohd Rosman Alias as an inducement for Rostam, who was the superintending officer’s representative for the privatisation project of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) to award work packages to the company.

He was accused of committing the offence at a parking lot of a mosque on Jalan Damai, Kampung Datuk Keramat, here on April 12, 2023.

The charge, under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, provides for a maximum 20-year jail term and a fine of either five times the amount involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa proposed bail of RM60,000 in one surety.

Lawyer Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, representing Rostam, did not object to the bail amount proposed by the prosecution.

During the proceedings, Dzulkifli informed the court that his client is expected to be charged tomorrow at the Shah Alam Court, a matter confirmed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Irna Julieza Maaras.

Judge Rosli Ahmad allowed the accused bail of RM60,000 in one surety, with the additional conditions that he surrenders his passport to the court and reports to the Selangor MACC office during the first week of every month until the case is concluded.

The court also set Feb 27 for mention of the case.
