KOTA KINABALU, Jan 30 (Bernama) -- Approximately 25,000 visitors attended the 2025 Sabah State Chinese New Year Open House at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.
Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, arrived at the event at 11.45 am. They were welcomed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife, Datin Seri Juliah Salag.
Also present were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, and Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, along with Sabah’s Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, who chaired the organising committee.
Guests were treated to cultural performances by the Sabah Cultural Board, a lion dance by the Keong Fatt Sabah Lion and Dragon Dance Association, a Chinese orchestra presentation by Tshung Tshin Secondary School, Kota Kinabalu, and songs from local artists such as Jaclyn Chia and Donald Guntabin.
The God of Fortune presented greeting scrolls and ‘gold pieces’ to welcome Musa, Hajiji, and the attendees to usher in the new year.
Musa, Hajiji, and the guests then participated in the Yee Sang tossing ceremony, a tradition symbolising the start of a prosperous and auspicious year.
The event also saw Musa, Hajiji, and the state cabinet engaging with attendees, distributing goody bags and Ang Pows to senior citizens.
