INDONESIA

1. GOV’T REVOKES CONCESSIONS OF 18 COMPANIES CONTROLLING OVER HALF A MILLION HECTARES OF FOREST LAND -- JAKARTA GLOBE

The Indonesian government has revoked forest management licenses from 18 companies that collectively controlled 526,144 hectares of land, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced on Monday.

 

2. GOVT WAVERS ON CLIMATE GOALS AMID GLOBAL SLUMP -- THE JAKARTA POST

The government has begun questioning the need for Indonesia’s commitment to the 2015 Paris climate accords amid sluggish global progress and United States disruption, raising concerns ahead of a crucial moment when the country must choose to double down on its contributions or empower its dirty energy interests.

1. COMMERCIAL-SCALE BLACK GINGER CULTIVATION -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Laos signed an agreement with South Korea’s NEOLAO Co Ltd to explore sustainable cultivation of black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora). The agreement will support eco-friendly processing techniques, and market opportunities for sustainable black ginger products in Laos and international markets.

 

2. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH TO PROPEL NATION'S GROWTH -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The government will focus on scientific research to advance Laos’ sustainable socio-economic development to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The role of scientific research will be pivotal in trade, agriculture, environmental conservation, enhancing production and social development.

 

MYANMAR

1. ELECTIONS TO COVER ALL SEGMENTS OF SOCIETY -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing assured the general election would be held to form the relevant bicameral legislative bodies.  Ethnic and other social groups will have the opportunity to vote and electronic voting machines will be installed so elections will be transparent.

 

2. EFFORTS TO LIST BAGO WETLANDS AS ASEAN HERITAGE PARK -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The Bago regional government said they plan to designate the Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary in Bago Township as an ASEAN Heritage Park. The Moeyungyi Lake which spans 25,600 acres has become a seasonal refuge for various migratory bird species this year.

 

VIETNAM

1. VIETNAM CELEBRATES PARTY’S SUCCESS, LUNAR NEW YEAR -- VIETNAMPLUS

The government marked the 95th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the traditional Lunar New Year 2025 on Monday. Leaders pledged to continue the country’s rapid progress and achieve at least eight per cent economic growth this year. 

 

2. ALCOHOL-LINKED TRAFFIC OFFENCES DECLINE -- VIETNAMPLUS 

The Traffic Police Department announced that alcohol-related traffic offences decreased by 54 per cent nationwide compared to last year. Over 17,100 people were found to have committed such violations during the Lunar New Year holidays, compared to 37,400 cases last year.
