KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Fifty selected students of Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) have benefitted from the Pembiayaan Bantuan Pendidikan Budi MARA – Takaful IKHLAS programme since 2020.
With a primary focus on alleviating the financial burden of underprivileged students and their families, this programme covers students’ tuition fees and daily expenses, enabling students to focus on their studies and strive for academic excellence.
In a statement, Takaful IKHLAS said that it has contributed RM375,000 to the programme, through its Syariah-compliant platform, IKHLAS Barakah House (IBH), in an effort to reduce financial barriers and foster access to quality education.
It said the students had benefited from the programme throughout their secondary education in MRSM, starting from their enrolment in Form 1 in 2020 until completion of Form 5 in 2024.
President and chief executive officer of Takaful Ikhlas Family Berhad Wan Ahmad Najib Wan Ahmad Lotfi was quoted in the statement as saying that Takaful IKHLAS is committed to sharing rizq (sustenance) and empowering the youth as well as communities across Malaysia.
“We hope that the benefits of educational assistance such as this programme will extend beyond the recipients. With the knowledge and skills acquired at MRSM, we believe that the students will play a key role in the nation’s development and economic progress,” he said.
The statement said that the programme also aligns with IBH’s commitment to promoting Value-Based Intermediation for Takaful (VBIT) initiatives and fostering a positive and sustainable community through five main pillars – education, healthcare, economic empowerment, community enrichment and environment.
“The majority of the funds from IBH are sourced from the company’s business zakat, as well as contributions from takaful participants, through various takaful plans and products. Since its establishment in 2018, IBH has successfully implemented over eighty (80) initiatives, with total contributions exceeding RM6 million,” it said.
Apart from that, this initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG) global sustainable development agenda, particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education.
The closing ceremony of the programme on Tuesday, officiated by Wan Ahmad Najib, was also attended by students receiving the contribution as well as representatives from participating MRSM namely MRSM Kuala Krai, MRSM Merbok, MRSM Terendak, MRSM Muar and MRSM Mersing.
Also present were MARA Secondary Education director Shahrizal Mohd Saderi, IBH chairman cum vice-president and head of Group Shariah & Business Advisory of Takaful Ikhlas Family Berhad Wan Jemizan W. Deraman.
