TANJONG MALIM, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- A total of 155 schoolchildren in the Slim area, near here, today received financial assistance for the school session, which starts tomorrow, through the Back-to-School Assistance Programme organised by the Tanjung Malim Member of Parliament's Office.
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang said they are among 900 recipients of school assistance through the programme for the whole of the Tanjung Malim area for this year, with a total expenditure of about RM90,000.
Chang, also the Tanjung Malim Member of Parliament (MP), hopes that the aid given will help parents purchase necessary supplies to prepare their children for the new schooling session.
"We (the Tanjung Malim MP's Office) will continue organising this programme for years to come and we hope, through this, we can help ease the burden of parents or families who are in need,” he said after presenting the aid here today.
Chang said his main focus is to provide aid in the education sector because students are national treasures, who deserve to be provided with sufficient facilities and resources so that they can serve the country in the future.
Meanwhile, 34-year-old housewife Norhamimah Abdullah, when met at the programme, said she was relieved to have received the aid as she intends to use it to purchase school supplies for her children.
"I am happy that (my children) received this aid… it will, to a small extent, help me financially too. I feel happy that I can buy my children the supplies they need to go to school. Hope we can get similar aid next year,” said the mother of three.
Twelve-year-old S. Krithika of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (T) Trolak, meanwhile, said she was touched and considered herself one of the lucky children to qualify for the assistance which will, to some extent, help her parents financially.
The 2025 school session begins tomorrow for Group B states, namely Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Meanwhile, Group A schools Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu started their session today.
