KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- National sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi has qualified for the final of the 60m event at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships in the United States after finishing second in Heat Five early this morning.

In the race held at Bryan-College Station, Texas, the 2024 Asian Games bronze medallist representing Auburn University clocked 6.61s, just 0.1s behind his teammate Israel Okon of Nigeria.

Third place went to University of Alabama’s Jekovan Rhetta of the US, who clocked 6.63s.

Azeem is set to compete in the 60m final, scheduled for early Sunday morning, as he aims for his first title of the season.

In February, the 20-year-old athlete broke his own national indoor 60m record at the Tiger Paw Invitational in California, US, with a time of 6.60s, surpassing his previous mark of 6.62s set at the same meet in 2023.
