MACC INTEGRITY OFFICERS URGED TO STRENGTHEN GOVERNANCE PRACTICES

06/03/2025 12:15 PM

PUTRAJAYA, March 6 (Bernama) -- Officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), stationed at the Integrity Unit (IU) or Integrity and Governance Unit (IGU) within external agencies, have been urged to identify weaknesses in the system and procedure.

This includes addressing outdated laws and regulations, as well as implementing necessary reforms, especially in large-scale governance improvements.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman said that implementing governance proposals and providing advisory services to agencies had become a key agenda in the National Governance Committee meetings, chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

"Integrity officers must monitor the implementation of advisory services or governance improvement proposals to ensure they achieve their goals," Azmi said.

He made these remarks while chairing the Senior Management Meeting with MACC Officers Stationed at External Agencies in Putrajaya today. Directors from various MACC divisions were also present.

Azmi emphasised that MACC officers at IU or IGU must actively contribute to anti-corruption efforts and fully utilise their expertise to strengthen integrity and governance in their assigned agencies.

Azmi also reminded that anti-corruption and governance initiatives should be implemented through specific programmes organised by ministries or agencies.

These include anti-corruption talks and dialogues led by secretaries-general or directors-general, surprise audits and improvements to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), he said.
