KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) is extending aid to the urban poor through the Gema Ramadan programme as part of its efforts to create a more meaningful social impact.
Yesterday, it distributed essential items, including rice, sugar, and “bubur lambuk” porridge, to over 1,000 residents, particularly single mothers, orphans, and the “asnaf” (those eligible to receive tithe) at the Hiliran Ampang People's Housing Project (PPR).
Bernas chairman Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, in a statement, said that empowering the community's living standards has always been Bernas' priority.
“We not only support low-income families but also extend assistance to the urban poor who fall under the B40 category,” she said.
According to the statement, Bernas’ commitment to community development is not only limited to the Gema Ramadan Programme but also includes initiatives such as the Health Food Program (PROMAK) which was launched in January 2022.
PROMAK, a free lunch programme for primary school students, has benefited more than 20,000 students in 97 schools in five states, namely Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
