IPOH, March 19 (Bernama) -- An Orang Asli man is feared drowned while fishing in a river at Kampung Kuala Chenein, Lasah, near Sungai Siput yesterday.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said the department received an emergency call at 9.34 pm, prompting the immediate deployment of personnel from the Sungai Siput, Kuala Kangsar, and Ipoh Fire and Rescue Stations (BBPs) to the scene.
He said the victim, identified as Amran Ahin, 43, was swept away by strong currents while fishing in the river with his younger brother.
“The search operation, which resumed this morning at 8, is focused on a one-kilometre radius from the location where the victim is believed to have gone missing," he said in a statement.
He added that the search and rescue team has been divided into several groups, with support from other agencies and members of the public.
